Overdenture  : Case Description done at Root And Tooth

Overdenture : A brief

Overdenture is replacement teeth retained by dental implants. Overdentures were developed to help both partial and fully edentulous patients regain a quality of life, which most likely has been missing since they lost their teeth.

Patient Name : Mrs. Urmila Pratap

An elderly female visited clinic with broken removable partial denture. She gave history of edentulism since many years. Patient was a complete denture wearer in upper jaw and partial denture wearer in lower jaw.  Since edentulism she had multiple sets of dentures. However the patient was pretty satisfied with upper denture but was not comfortable with lower one. The lower denture was broke as well.

Patient had firm and intact 4 teeth universal number 33, 34, 43 & 44. She was given option for both fixed and removable prosthesis. However the patient didn’t want to go for fixed options. Mrs. Urmila had complete flat posterior ridges so it was important to engage remaining teeth. Out of bar supported and regular overdenture, she opted for regular metal coping supported lower overdenture. As both side teeth were symmetrically placed so we decided to involve all 4 teeth in Overdenture. Root Canal treatment was carried out and teeth were reduced to desired height. Impression were made, copings cemented, border moulding and jaw retation were carried out. A Trial was done and correction were made as per patient requirements. Final denture placement was done with full care. Patient was happy and satisfied with the outcome. As he patient was an outstation patient therefore nylon fiber web was embedded as extra precautionary measure. A couple of follow ups were done for minor post placement adjustments.
